Starting with a Bang!

Tomorrow will be the 1st day of Year 2!

My very modest hopes for the new subjects:

1. Land law, lets hope that you will be not be bland.

2. Law of tort, I pray that you will not be torturous/tormenting; just be your old tortious self.

3. Law of Evidence, thou shalt err... contain/provide evidential evidence.

4. Company law will be a great companion, hopefully.

5. Legal Practice, you will TOTALLY sum up my Saturdays.

Good luck and all the best to you new Year 2 students!
(And to myself too)

Hopes for the new academic year

I will be flying off in less than 8 hours.

Year 1 has been eventful, fun and fab.

Here's to a smooth-sailing Year 2 with hopes that it gets better and better each day of the academic year.

Err... Breaking News?

Thoughts?

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

I'm so sorry for the temporary hiatus. Let's just say life has been eventful for the past week.

This is going to be a rather random post as I am not using my laptop to blog (where all the essential materials are in).

I have been a couch potato and TV junkie as of late. I watch shows from The Biggest Loser, Nigella Bites to My Super Sweet 16 UK! You name it, I have it. Loads to mention but I shall not bore you out.

I have a current obsession too - online shopping. Actually, more like online window shopping. There are a few good sites that I've shortlisted and will definitely be following in the future. Click these links for some of my fave online boutiques in no particular order:

Am currently addicted to Cobra Starship's Good Girls Go Bad. Its just too catchy. Lyrics-wise, cheesy but like I said, its just too catchy.

I am going to fly off to KL in like 2 minutes, wait 2 days. Reacting to this with mixed feelings but mostly, I'm just glad to continue with my studies. I already had a memorable, well-used holiday, anyway. :) Now I'm hoping I'll wake up early enough because my flight is at 6.20a.m. O.O

Much to look forward to in KL, but even more to miss at home.

Conitnuation to previous post

Happy to see a quick return?

My name ranked no. 8 in top names for girls!

Proof:

Gahaha!

Coincidentally, my brother's name ALSO ranked no. 8 in top names for boys.

Conclusion: I think my parents have a niche for naming kids.

Bye.

Should I feel embarassed/proud?

Oh, snap. I just made a discovery on the net. :/

Check it out for yourself. Its pretty self-explanatory.

Click on the following links:

and

Note: I wasn't a naughty kid in primary and high school. I've got proven track record in my report cards.

Hence, no reason to be embarassed/proud la. I. Am. Me.

Happy.

On another note, yesterday was the historic 09.09.09 and it was quite the hype in little Miri. The Civic Centre was a hive of activity yesterday morning with couples doing a mass registration for their marriage on the auspicious date. Dad and I were curious as to what was going on in there that we decided to take a drive in there to check out the scene.

I even saw some ex-schoolmates (who weren't my age, of course).

Oh! Friends at home, remember the guy we nicknamed BCB??? The ex-band member who visited our band practices before? I saw him posing for photographs with his soon-to-be-wife. And he's in the Chinese paper today! He was interviewed by the reporter for the paper.

By the by, I baked chewy chocolate cookies a few days ago. Shall put up the pictures in the next post. I'm not using my laptop for this post and the pictures are all in there.

See you all soon. :)

Visitors from the West!

Two Aliens have invaded Miri soil on July 3rd!!

And I am fortunate enough to be the graceful host for their invasion. Err, I mean stay. The Aliens go by the name of Jo Yin and Ai Lee, pretty normal names for Aliens huh?

Okay, fine. I kid, I kid. Jo Yin and Ai Lee are actually friends of mine from uni. Jo Yin is from Perak and Ai Lee, Malacca. They came here for a 4 days and 3 nights vacation; the first stop being Miri and the second stop. Kuching. This is their maiden trip to Sarawak.

Pictures taken during their stay. There aren’t many, sadly.

The two ladies on Miri sand. This is Tanjung Lobang Beach.

Its too bad they didn't get to do para-sailing. Until today, I still have no idea as to where the take-off point is (Mirians reading this might be sniggering by now).

Pic above: Para-sailers in the background of a clear blue sky (thank goodness they came way before the terrible haze that hit Miri).

Speaking of skies, Jo Yin the Clown and I had this snippet of a conversation while we were enjoying Cendol at the shop opposite Petronas gas station;

JY: *looks at beautiful sky admiringly* Hey, Jess, are there hornbills flying about in the sky here?

Me: *sweat-faced* Err, no! Hornbills don't fly around or live in the City! They live in the forests and are very rare to find.

JY: Oh... I'd so like to see and hold one. *grins like a kid* Then, I shall carry it and pose with it like this. *holds up imaginary hornbill next to her cheek and grins at imaginary camera*

Me: *sweat-faced, again* LOL!

This girl is so very funny I tell you.

Lovely, not?

Err, lovebirds?

:)

Some Chinese words that are hard to make out.

You can fish at the jetty.

The picturesque jetty about half an hour before sunset.

Jo Yin with the sunset as backdrop. The photo doesn't do the sunset justice, sadly. It was a pretty sight to behold, actually. We enjoyed satay, coconut water and 6-flavour-drink while watching the sun set.

*********************

During Jo Yin and Ai Lee's stay, another friend, Ray from Penang, coincidentally came too! He brought with him a gorgeous plum cheesecake which he and a few other guys baked for me and another friend to try! *smiles*

The cake without flash. Those are sliced prunes on top. The cake was glazed with plum juice jam. It was not overly sweet, surprisingly. Very nice.

This is taken with flash. I think it looks like a pepperoni pizza.

Cheesy richness which is the Yums. Base: Crushed oatmeal biscuits.

Couldn't believe they came up with this wonderful cake. My verdict: Awesome! Guys can really awe us with their hidden capabilities. Girls have to admittedly get reality check sometimes.

*********************

Next visitor to the Oil City is Miss Kathleen, my Criminal Law lecturer!

Miss Kath was here for the Bar Council Games against Sarawak. It was more like a friendly event. It was awesome to see her here. She played netball for the Bar Council. Her team played so good, they totally creamed Sarawak.

However, its a shame she came during the haze so she couldn't really enjoy what Miri has to offer.

Miss Kath (centre) and her superb physique. :D (I was banned from taking pictures of her face).

Till the next time I update! :)

Ushering in the month of September

September, September, September.

This month used to be the month which I would go really, really broke.

Reason being, MANY OF YOUR BIRTHDAYS FALL ON THIS MONTH!

We used to plan days, even months ahead as to what to buy for (insert name). But then time and distance, with the latter being the main reason, has slowly caught up on us.

The number of present buyers have dwindled drastically and the number of presents given/accepted dwindled along consequently.

Wishes are more practical now, with us being scattered all over the world.

That being said, I vehemently believe that IT IS REALLY THE THOUGHT THAT COUNTS.

A text all the way from another side of the World, a phone call perhaps, would really make one's day (well, at least for me).

Anyway, being a free bird now, I actually had the time to sit down and ponder on what to write for my first post for September.

Then, light-bulb moment came. *Tink!*

What better way to kick start September with a post to wish my friends Happy Birthday?

*excited mode on*

1st September

1. Abir; who turns 21
2. Kean Fatt; who turns 20

I knew Abir from college. She helped me brave through college, which was the toughest episode yet of my 21 years of existence. I hearts this wonderful and outspoken woman dearly. She is truly a great friend and a good shopping/gossip/laughing/eating buddy. I shall miss you tremendously when you go back to Wales!

I knew Kean Fatt from uni. This dude is one of the most hilarious/outrageous person I've ever known. So open-minded is his mind that I sometimes admire him, just for that. He is one who takes life by its reins in a positive attitude. Shall see you real soon, Fatt!

2nd September

Nelly

Nelly was my ex-colleague, an up and coming, high-flying Lawyer. She's really down-to-earth, cute and has the amazing ability to laugh at herself. Her smile will brighten up anyone's day. Thanks for liking my chocolate chip cookies! :D

4th September

Siew Siew; who is turning 21

Siew Siew is one of my oldest friend (ever since Primary School). She has this timid voice that can go really loud if provocated. Hahaha. A strong advocate of almost everything Korean and Jap, Siew Siew is a really sweet person and quite the foodie, like me. She is single too, and ready to mingle *winks*

10th September

Tik Tsin, who is turning 21

TT is one of those people that you can count on. He has this cool demeanour about him, but do not be deceived! Once you know him well, be inspired/surprised/"-_-/ tickled to catch him doing his vanity-check (not to be confused with sanity-check ala Mr. Mark Goh). An avid phoptographer, this TT. This guy is an awetastic friend to have.

20th September

Joanne; who is turning 21

Josie-Joanne is my long time nick name for Joanne (it just has a nice ring to it). Another old friend of mine, Joanne can make you turn when you hear her laughter. Strong-willed and loud, she is pursuing medicine now and it is extremely stressful. Good luck and God bless, Josie!

29th September

Fiona; who is turning 21

My sweet, sweet Fiona who is an Angel in disguise! :P Fiona was my classmate from Primary 1 to Form 5. We went through thick & thin (well, almost) and grew up together. I'm proud that we still remain close although you've been overseas for 3 years. I miss you a great deal. May our friendship continue to blossom and flourish with time!

I guess that will be all. This list is in fact rather long, but I kept it shorter and hopefully, sweet.

To You out there whose birthday falls on this month but whom I inadvertently omitted, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

<3,
Jessica
